Shannon Wheeler Fiddle
Raised in Bedford County, VA Shannon started playing music at age 4. He
got his first drum kit at age 5 and has been playing ever since. His dad is
a fiddler and always had the late legendary Bluegrass DJ and historian Bill
Vernon on the intercom radio at home when he was a kid . He always
remembered the lonesome sound of Bill Monroe but never paid much
attention to what he was listening to. At age 21 , he bought his dad
tickets to go see Alison Krauss for his birthday hoping he would invite
one of his bluegrass buddies to go with him. Shannon went along and
was in shock after the show! Not only did he fall for Alison, but for her
bluesy fiddle playing and long drags and the tone she pulled from that
bow.
He went straight to home after that show and his dad let him borrow one
of his fiddles -he's been at it ever since.
Shannon admires the playing of Stuart Duncan, Kenny Baker, Joe Green,
Bobby Wheeler, Jason Carter, Alison Krauss, Benny Simms and Clark
Kessinger.
I traveled with The Churchmen for 3 years until I gave up the gig to help
my wife Jenni raise our girls Brooke and Emma. And now I'm a Blinky
Moon Boy forever.
